Blue financing for urban coastal resilience: Investing in flood-ready, climate-secure cities
auctusESG in partnership with the Blue Bond Accelerator, and the Ocean Centres India (hosted by the United Nations Global Compact and supported by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation) is hosting a webinar on “Blue financing for coastal urban resilience: Investing in flood-ready, climate-secure cities”.
The aim is to address the growing financing gap for climate adaptation in India’s coastal urban centres. Coastal cities, such as Mumbai, are increasingly exposed to sea-level rise, storm surges, and extreme rainfall, resulting in recurrent economic losses, infrastructure damage, and service disruptions.
Despite the scale and urgency of these risks, financing for coastal and urban resilience remains fragmented, with municipal bodies constrained by limited own-source revenues and weak access to capital markets.
By aligning public finance, development finance, and private capital around clearly defined blue economy and resilience opportunities, the event seeks to strengthen investment pipelines for flood-resilient infrastructure, nature-based solutions, and coastal protection.
The discussion is particularly relevant for Mumbai, where advancing blue finance is critical to safeguarding urban infrastructure, livelihoods, and ecosystems in the face of accelerating climate impacts.
